"CCYHA Special Hockey has been an incredible program for our family and our son. He gets to be part of a great team with lots of friends. The team also gets a chance to do some really neat stuff, liking meeting NHL Blue Jacket players and playing on the Nationwide ice."

Our team in Columbus

This is the first ice hockey team for people with developmental disabilities in the Columbus Area. The team has been named the CCYHA Columbus Blue Jackets and is chartered under the Columbus Chill Youth Hockey Association (CCYHA). The team has also received tremendous support from the NHL Columbus Blue Jackets and the Blue Jackets Foundation.

The team first began practicing in 2007. Since it's formation, it has had the opportunity to take part in some very exciting events, including the "Future Jackets" intermission skate at Blue Jackets games, practicing on the Nationwide Arena ice, playing games with other special hockey programs in the Midwest, and participating in annual national and international tournaments:

  • The 2008 Special Hockey International Tournament in Toronto, ON
  • The 2009 U.S. Disabled Hockey Festival in Buffalo, NY
  • The 2010 U.S. Disabled Hockey Festival in the Washington-Baltimore area
  • The 2011 Special Hockey International Tournament in Boston, MA
